I'm an assistant property manager in northern British Columbia. Before that I spent a few years coordinating maintenance and leasing. This is roughly what that involves.

• Maintenance Working out what's wrong, how urgent it is, and who should fix it. Then following up until it's done.
• Tenants Answering questions, explaining what happens next, and passing along news, good or not.
• Leasing Showings, paperwork, move-ins and move-outs.
• Inspections Units and buildings, written up with notes, photos and dates.
• Everything else Keys, parking, a vendor who didn't show, a furnace on the coldest day of the year.

I like that last part. Each one is a small puzzle with a clear end.
